Remove any air that may have mixed with the hydraulic oil by opening the bleed valve and cycling the pressure plate back and forth three or four times. Drain the tank and fill with fresh. Make sure the machine you use will work.
Doing so can cause injury or void the warranty.! The power that drives the hydraulic wedge of a wood splitting machine comes from a small engine similar to that you'd find on a lawn mower. I can be more specific later with makes/models if need be, but my 22 ton splitter engine (5 hp b&s) locked up on me some years ago.

Stale fuel or water in the fuel can cause the engine to surge. If so, your log splitter may need hydraulic oil. Someone could accidentally activate the ram and be injured.
If the oil level is correct, then there may be air in the system. If the valve doesn't kick out at the end of the stroke that could be your answer. No big deal as with work i didn't have time to investigate the problem.

Log length should be kept to 24” or less. Turn off the choke once the engine warms up. This log splitter model is capable of splitting logs up to 25” long and 14” in.
